Halls proud at becoming Silkmen skipper
ANDY Halls is thrilled to be leading the Silkmen after being named as the club’s new captain.
Macclesfield were in need of a new skipper after Paul Turnbull left the club to join Barrow earlier this summer.
Halls was named as the new captain, and has had the armband during the team’s pre-season matches.
The 24-year-old is proud to have the accolade, and is looking forward to the start of the season.
“It’s been nice and it’s been a different sort of responsibility that I’ve not had before,” he said.
“I’ve only tasted it in friendly games so far so I can’t wait until the season starts and I can take on the responsibility in a more serious matter.”
Halls played in Macclesfield’s 3-0 victory over Nantwich Town on Saturday, and he was pleased with the performance that the team put in.
“We’ve come out with no injuries and some of the lads have got 90 minutes and others have got 60 or 70 minutes, so that’s a positive,” he said.
“The main thing is getting the fitness and having no injuries, but obviously we want to win as well so to score a few goals and keep a clean sheet is good.
“It was a difficult game because they had three in midfield over our two, so it was tough to get the ball down and pass it through the lines.
“The pitch was a bit sticky so that didn’t help our passing game, but we kept at it and broke them down and scored three good goals.”
Halls is a defender by trade, but he was used in midfield for the game against Nantwich, and he admits he doesn’t mind playing there again in the future.
“I thought I did ok and I was just trying to get as much work out of it as possible,” he said.
“I was as neat and tidy with the ball as I could be so I was happy with the performance, and if I’m needed to do a job there then I can.”
