‘Same again’ for top grade school

KING’S School A Level students were jumping for joy thanks to another bumper set of results.

The school celebrated the same results as last year, with 80 per cent of all grades at A* to B, but this year more than 50pc of all grades are at A* and A - up from 44pc last year, while 22pc achieved the ultimate A* grade up from 18pc last year.

Ten students achieved three A*s or better; three students achieved an amazing four A*s, while 50 students achieved three As or better.

Among the success stories are rugby player Callum Lavelle, 18, from Macclesfie­ld who got three A*s and an A grade and will read Chemistry at Bristol.

Cryptograp­hy specialist and twice a gold medallist in the British Maths Olympiads, Matt Harden, 18, from Congleton, got four A*s and will read Maths at Warwick.

School Captain Aiman Aslam, 18, from Macclesfie­ld, who got four A*s and will now read Medicine at Downing College, Cambridge.

Brilliant young musi- cian Brendan Jacot, 18, from Sutton, got three A*s and an A will read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Hertford College, Oxford.

Harriet Rous, 18, from Congleton, who got three A*s will now take an Art Foundation course at Manchester before applying to Oxford for her full degree.

Winner of the national ‘Humanities Student of the Year’ award, Sarah Laughton, 18, from Macclesfie­ld who got three A*s and an A and will read Geography at Cambridge.

World and European championsh­ip sailor Adam Russ, 18, from Tytheringt­on, who got three A*s and an A and will read Theoretica­l Physics at Lancaster. Aeronautic­s enthusiast Oliver Davies, 18, from Prestbury who got three A*s and an A and will read Engineerin­g at Durham, and finally Dmitri Whitmore, 18, from Congleton, who will read Maths at Cambridge.

James Sherring, 18, from Macclesfie­ld, also got four straight A*s and will read Chemical Engineerin­g at Manchester

King’s School Head- master Dr Simon Hyde said: “These are the second best set of results in the school’s history only marginally behind those achieved in 2014 confirming the strong improve- ments in teaching and learning at King’s over the last five years.

“This exceptiona­l level of success is not achieved overnight or through last minute revision but . through hard work from the early years up to the Sixth Form and the teaching staff’s insistence on a rigorous attention to detail and discipline­d working routines.”
