This year there are 11 categories open to the region’s businesses, with entries welcome from all businesses regardless of size – you just have to get your nominations in before the deadline of September 30.

As part of our coverage of the area’s biggest celebration of local enterprise, the Express is introducing the category sponsors each week to see why they are supporting the event.

This week we talk to Melissa Bowers, director of chartered accountants Harts Limited.

Melissa started training contract her with Harts 20 years ago; going on to qualifying as a Certified Chartered Accountant.

She works with a range of clients, from owner managed businesses to foreign owned subsidiaries. She maintains a hands-on approach and undertakes diverse advisory work, from operational to strategic support.

As a business owner she is able to fully understand and assist businesses with the challenges they face.

We have been involved with the awards from inception and are keen to continue supporting our business community. The awards are an ideal opportunity to showcase and celebrate the businesses and individuals in our area.

Why did you choose to sponsor this particular award?

We have a strong team ethos at Harts, which is vital to most businesses, hence why we chose this category to sponsor.

This award provides the ideal opportunity to give recognition and thanks to the team. We see many businesses bringing their employees to the awards dinner and the atmosphere generated is superb.

For those entering the awards it is a fantastic way to raise the profile of your business both for the winners and those short listed.

From a judging perspective make sure that your entry focuses on the category being entered, demonstrating why you should win that particular award.

With regards to business life in general, I personally believe it is important to preserve a positive mind-set, ensuring you use your team and extended advisors to support you on your business journey.

At Harts we see ourselves as an extension to our clients’ business and fulfil an important role as a sounding board for our clients, who at times need a trusted advisor that they can talk to. We genuinely enjoy helping our clients to succeed.
