Batting collapse sinks Poynton with four to play

- CRICKET

POYNTON fell to another defeat against Disley, where their batting once again collapsed.

Poynton eventually made it to 106-9, but required 36 from Jon Hadley and 20 not out from Luke Jones to save them from humiliation, after four wickets each from Disley new ball pair Toby Carson and Adam Burgess left them reeling on 37-8.

Rain reduced the Disley reply to 27 overs, but they needed only half of these to race to their target.

Lachlan Dunn led the way by smashing 72 from only 36 deliveries with 13 fours and two sixes.

Adam Williams took three of the four wickets to fall, but he too couldn’t stop Dunn’s onslaught.

The club still stand only 13 points from safety, and with four games to go, Poynton must cling to this chance of salvation.

KERRIDGE were due to play Glazebury away on Saturday but unfortunately Glazebury conceded the fixture. Kerridge still, however, took the points as a win. This Saturday Kerridge host Styal, and are hoping to play as the last four weeks of the 2016 season begin. matches, and had Astley Bridge not forfeited on the final day, Chester would have been relegated last year and would have been unable to challenge for the big prize this time.

This match was just the latest in a long line of fixtures in the damp 2016 season which were started but not finished due to weather, although perhaps surprisingly only one match in the top two divisions has been completely washed out.

After struggling for runs all season, another low total and the resulting defeat for Ashton-onMersey ensures the Salebased team are relegated to division two. Ashton-on-Mersey 86 (38.5; Amanda Gettins 40, Anni Rashid 4-9, Nathalie Long 3-11) (5pts) Appleton 87-3 (22.1; Laura Jackson 40*, Emma Barlow 20, Gettins 2-19) (25pts) Oxton 52 (26; Rivca Burns 20, Jennie Kitzinger 5-9, Gaby McKeever 3-15) Stockport Trinity 56-4 (13.4; McKeever 31*, Burns 3-5)
