Home grown talent delivers victory

- CRICKET TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON 1st XI played Warrington this weekend, which saw a first for the Division 1 side as all but the South African overseas player Faiz Kippie had started with Bollington at a junior level.

Richard Hough won the toss and elected to field first, but had to wait until the 15th over until the first wicket of the afternoon fell, Stuart Plant doing the damage removing Agar for 25 after a catch by Kippie at mid wicket.

Kippie bowled Heaney for nine and removed Stone for 19 after a great catch from Cal Goodhind behind the stumps, which saw the visitors well on top with the scores 69-3 after 25 overs.

Kippie continued his fine spell to finish with two wickets for 31 runs including six maidens. Plant finished with 1-42 including four maidens.

Horsfield replaced Plant and made an immediate impact, removing Green for 25 and Heaphy for 0 to see the scores at 130-6 with 10 overs remaining.

Jake Dickinson then ran out Rudd for 32, and soon after saw Harri Dickinson (2-40) took two quick wickets.

The final two wickets came late on with Horsfield doing the damage to finish with figures of 4-29 as Warrington posted a total of 163.

A fine display from the visitors who were exceptional in the field, with a special mention to James Heathcote who took three great catches.

Hough (15) and H. Dickinson (16) put on 29 for the first wicket before three quick wickets left the visitors in a tricky situation at 37-3. Kippie and Horsfield carried the side to 77 at the drinks break.

Warrington struck again with the first ball after drinks, removing Horsfield for 25. This brought Henshall, to the crease and, with Kippie, took the visitors over the 100 mark.

Just 60 runs were required for victory with 18 overs to go, Bollington were cruising until Kippie was bowled for 25.

But Heathcote and Henshall continued to frustrate the hosts. Henshall brought up his maiden 1st team 50, leaving Bollington requiring eight before he lost his wicket for a match winning 53.

Plant (3*) and Heathcote (10*) ensured Bollington would take the 25 points, a victory which cements their place in Division 1 for another season.

Bollington 2nd XI were putting together a late promotion push with another win. Bollington bowled Alvanley out for 163, Palazzo 3-42, Harper 3-45 the pick of the bowlers.

They made little trouble of reaching the required total in just 34 overs. Dawson hit 35, Mackinnon 35 and veteran Rick Patterson with 43*.

This Sunday sees the annual Bollington CC Charity Fun Day at the recreation ground, with proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The event starts from 12pm and will include many fun activities throughout the day. All visitors are welcome to help make the day as successful as pervious years.
