MACC Town striker Chris Holroyd is glad to be back in his preferred position after spending the last few years playing out wide.

Holroyd, was rarely used as a centre forward during the 2015/16 period, but has been given the chance to play in that position during the opening stages of the current season.

The 29-year-old has impressed so far and has already doubled his goal tally from last season, and he’s happy with how he’s hit the ground running.

“It’s nice to be back up top. I enjoyed my time playing out wide for the last couple of years but whether it be out wide or up top I’m just really enjoying my football,” he told the club’s official website. “I’ve said before, I’ve really enjoyed my football since coming back to Macclesfield, and that’s the basis for everything.

MACCLESFIELD Town left it late to come from behind and pick up a win at Solihull Moors on Monday.

Ollie Norburn struck the injury-time winner for the visitors to hand them all three points at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.

Solihull Moors initially led in the game, with goals from Shep Murombedzi and Akwasi Asante putting them 2-1 up at the interval, with Kingsley James getting Macc’s goal.

James then struck again after half-time, before Norburn’s strike earned his side the win and moved them up to eighth place in the National League table, having taken 12 points from seven matches.

Macclesfield made several changes from the team that lost to Lincoln City on Saturday, with Norburn, Craig Ross, Jack Mackreth and Mitch Hancox all returning to the team.

It was Solihull who were the better team as the match got underway, with Liam Daly having the first chance when his header was well saved by Ross after three minutes.

The hosts continued to threaten and Connor Franklin thought he had opened the scoring when he had the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Ross.

Macc were then forced into an early change in the match when John McCombe was replaced by Dan Cowan.

Solihull then made the breakthrough through Murombedzi on 22 minutes, with the 21-year-old seeing his long-range effort deflected into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

They almost doubled in the good performances and people can see you’re working hard for the team.

“It’s up to the manager where he sees my best position, he sees the bigger picture and I leave it down to him to decide, I’m happy to slot in wherever.” Holroyd was born in Macclesfield but didn’t play for his hometown team until he joined in 2013, following previous spells at the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Preston North End and Rotherham United.

His most prolific spell came at Cambridge United, where he scored 22 goals in 60 appearances for the club from 2008 to 2010.
