Road named after Olympic duo
A ROAD has been renamed in honour of Macclesfield’s golden Olympic couple - at least for now.
Knutsford Road in Chelford has been temporarily renamed Kenny Trott Road in honour of cyclists Laura Trott and fiancé Jason Kenny to celebrate the third stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race which came through Macclesfield.
The couple - who won five gold medals between them at the Rio Olympics - live in the village and Laura tweeted her delight at having a road near her home renamed in her honour.
Laura, Britain’s most successful female Olympian after winning four Olympic gold medals, tweeted: “Well what can we say! Feeling honoured to have this renamed after us for the #tob2016 stage tomorrow.”
The renaming of Knutsford Road is a temporary measure as part of the Cheshire Tour of Britain celebrations. But it could become a permanent fixture for residents as Cheshire East is considering switching the name for good.
Cheshire East leader Rachel Bailey said: “I’m sure everyone in Cheshire East will join me in congratulating Laura and Jason on their recordbreaking success. Their amazing achievements are an inspiration to us all and I’m glad we can honour them by temporarily renaming a road for the celebrations.
“We hope Laura and Jason have the chance to watch the race as it passes through Chelford.”
