£250 boost for dog training

-

GENEROUS shoppers helped to raise more than £250 when a shopping centre hosted a dog charity.

Dogs for Good, a charity which provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities, set up shop at the Grosvenor Centre to raise money for the next generation of working pups.

Throughout the two-day fundraiser Kim Pang and her assistance dog Ike were stationed at the centre, raising funds and informing shoppers about how donations can help to train and care for assistance dogs.

Alix Davis, regional fundraiser for Dogs for Good, said she was pleased that the fundraising days were so successful.

She said: “We were delighted to be at Grosvenor Shopping Centre. Kim has been to the centre before and the shoppers love meeting Ike and finding out about Dogs for Good.

“The charity provides a variety of services to ensure adults and children with disabilities can gain independence, including training assistance dogs, providing advice on how a pet dog can help the whole family and training specialist therapy dogs who work in schools and community groups. To train puppies to this level costs around £12,000, so we are extremely thankful to all the shoppers who donated so generously.”

Ed Kennedy, manager of the Grosvenor Centre, said shoppers always enjoy seeing Kim and Ike from Dogs for Good at the centre.

He said: “I’m really pleased that the charity was able to raise more than £250 at the centre last weekend.

“They provide fantastic assistance for people with disabilities in the area and we are proud to be able to show our support for such an important charity.

“We love having Dogs for Good at the centre and the pair always prove extremely popular with the shoppers.

“Overall, the charity has managed to raise more than £550 by visiting the Grosvenor Centre, so we would like to thank our shoppers for donating so generously.”
