Violinist sounds the start of new season

HIGHLY acclaimed musicians have been lined-up for the forthcomin­g season of Macclesfie­ld’s Northern Chamber Orchestra.

The new season kicks off at the Heritage Centre on Saturday, October 8 with violinist Chloe Hanslip, who takes on Beethoven’s great Violin Concerto in the Dazzling Spirit concert.

Others set for the season include:

Flutist Adam Walker who plays JS Bach Suite no 1 and CPE Bach Flute Concerto in D minor on November 5

The King’s School Foundation Choir and soprano Alison Langer singing Gershwin Songs and Dvorák Slavonic Dances on December 3

Violinist Matthew Trusler playing Bruch Violin Concerto no 1 on January 14

Hornist Naomi Atherton playing Mozart Horn Concerto no 2 on February 18

Pianist Steven Osborne playing Beethoven Piano Concerto no 1 on March 4

NCO Soloists playing Mozart’s Oboe Quartet on April 8

Pianist Lara Melda playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto no 20 on May 13.

Nicholas Ward, the Northern Chamber Orchestra’s artistic director, said record-breaking numbers of people came to the NCO’s last season.

He said: “I’m very pleased with the way our new season’s concert pro- grammes have worked out.

“I’m looking forward to all of them and to working with more great soloists, several of whom will be appearing with the NCO for the first time, such as violinist Chloe Hanslip, flautist Adam Walker and pianist Lara Melda.

“Chloe is opening the series with what is undoubtedl­y one of the greatest works for violin – Beethoven’s first and amazingly, only concerto for this instrument.”

Prices are £7-£18, with free tickets to under 18s. You can also book for the full season.

The Northern Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1967 and has performed at the Heritage Centre for more than 20 years.

It is also is the ‘Orchestra in Residence’ at Manchester Metropolit­an University (MMU). This season’s sponsor is MMU’s faculty of education.
