Future looks bright for nursery after ‘good’ Ofsted inspection

-

A NURSERY is celebrating after receiving a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.

Bright Horizons Tytherington Day Nursery and Pre-School was rated ‘good’ in all four key areas of leadership and management; quality of teaching; personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

In terms of leadership and management, the inspector, Susan King, praised the way in which feedback about the school’s outdoor area was acted on.

In the report, Ms King wrote: “Improvements to children’s outdoor learning were well planned and effective.”

Ms King added: “Managers work in partnership with other professionals and children who have special educational needs or disability are supported well.”

Teachers were also said to make learning fun and to motivate children.

Ms King said: “Practitioners encourage and support children and this helps them to keep trying.

“Practitioners in the toddler room frequently repeat children’s favourite stories. They begin to tell the story themselves and this helps to promote their understanding, speaking and memory.”

Regarding welfare, children with allergies to certain foods were also catered for safely and teachers were people that the children could look up to, Ms King found.

She said: “Practitioners are calm and friendly role models who show children how to listen to and respect other people.”

Outcomes for children were also good, it was noted. Children were said to be able to count, recognise their names in writing and to know how to take turns when they participated in group activities.Ms King said: “All children acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well to start school.”

To improve further, she observed, staff and management needed to focus more specifically on what teachers needed to do to improve their teaching and why.

To gain an outstanding grade, it was also necessary, she said, to ‘make the most of what is known about individual children’s achievements, so that teaching focuses even more precisely on what children need to learn next and children are supported to make rapid progress’.

Staff at the nursery declined to comment.
