Holiday club for the elderly
A HOLIDAY club for the elderly has been hailed a massive success.
Holiday at Home is run by Holy Trinity Church in Hurdsfield.
Now in its eighth year, the three-day club aims to give older people the chance to get together and socialise and try new activities.
During last month’s club 34 people attended and took part in putting, croquet and boules, while other simply enjoyed chatting.
The craft workshop produced a variety of interesting and useful objects.
The club also put on a two-course hot lunch with sherry before an afternoon of entertainment.
Fatma, a dancer, explained the origins of Eastern dancing. The audience threw themselves into the fun and got dressed up in a variety of costumes to illustrate her talk.
Another entertainer was the Bel Canto choir from Macclesfield who sang African songs and songs from the shows for everyone to join in.
The final visitor was magician Paul Morley, whose tricks mystified and enthralled all.
Sylvia Johnson, who organised the event, said: “Holiday at Home enjoyed an eighth successful event.
“We had 34 people attend in beautiful weather to participate in activities or just to enjoy sitting in the sunshine chatting.
“The club is a great opportunity to get people from all over the town together.”
