Homebuilders plea for more allocation
STATEMENTS calling for the go ahead for 1,200 homes to be built on greenbelt land have been sent to the planning inspector.
Jones Homes and Redrow Homes have asked for more land between Chelford Road and Pexhill Road to be released from the greenbelt which could take 550 homes.
They say they can submit a planning application ‘at the earliest opportunity’, and that building in south west Macclesfield will allow the creation of the proposed South West Macclesfield Link Road to ease traffic problems around the town.
Jones Homes and Redrow have also set their sights on land at Congleton Road, together with another developer Richborough Estates, where they are looking to build 300 homes.
This is supported by the Big Bailey Riddings Farm, which owns 28 hectares in the Congleton Road greenbelt site and more in the safeguarded land.
They also argue that land north of Penningtons Lane could provide more homes.
Gary Halman, managing partner for How Planning which is acting for Jones Homes and Redrow, said: “We are supportive of the council’s plans to release land from the green belt.
“The local plan has got to allocate enough homes in Macclesfield for the next 15 years. All the land around Macclesfield is greenbelt and if we are to have new homes it needs to be on land taken from the greenbelt, or the town will stagnate. The council concluded the greenbelt in south west Macclesfield is the least sensitive.”
Robinsons Brewery, which owns land between Chelford Road and Whirley Road, wants to build around 150 homes and has already been in discussions with officers ahead of a planning application.
Another landowner, Mr M Mitchell, wants to add his land to this site and states he ‘is anxious to release the land for development as soon as possible’, for approximately 200 houses. And Simon Taylor proposes that the site between Chelford Road and Pexhill Road is extended to include his land.
Mr Bracegirdle says that seven acres of land he owns at Pexhill Road should also be included for immediate development.
Documents state he is ‘already in discussion with prospective developers’.
