Hadrian trek raises £600

-

ACOUPLE with a passion for hill walking have added £600 to their charity pot.

John and Janet Thorley, of Surrey Road, Gawsworth, took on the challenge of trekking along a section of Hadrian’s Wall to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

And after completing 23 gruelling miles, they have raised more than £685 for the charity.

John, who works as a construction health and safety specialist, said: “We made a pledge a number of years ago to undertake a challenge every year for the foreseeable future in order to help raise funds for charity.

“The Alzheimer’s Society does outstanding work and it is a privilege to work alongside the dedicated team at the Alzheimer’s Society to help raise funds to support the fantastic work that they do.

“We would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to those people that spon- sored us and to the support staff and guides, and medics from the Alzheimer’s Society that gave us so much encouragement on the day, always with an infectious smile and notable passionate dedication to the cause.”

Ashley Dodd, Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser for Cheshire, said: “We are incredibly grateful to John and Janet for taking on this impressive challenge to support the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Dementia can happen to anyone and there is currently no cure. But with the right support, people can live well with dementia.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like John and Janet to help us continue our vital work so that the Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”

Last year John and Janet, who works at Marks and Spencer in Macclesfield, climbed to the highest point in Scotland – the top of Ben Nevis – to raise money for Marie Curie.
