Get in the running
IF the Olympic exploits of Mo Farah have inspired you to dust off those running shoes then Macclesfield has the ideal sporting challenge.
The Macclesfield Half Marathon and a less strenuous 5k race, both organised by Macclesfield Harriers, take place from 10am on Sunday, September 25.
More than 700 runners are expected to line up in the Half Marathon, with around 200 undertaking the 5k challenge.
Both start and finish on the athletics track behind Macclesfield Leisure Centre, with the shorter race following a route along Victoria Road and Prestbury Road while the longer distance incorporates Prestbury and the Cheshire countryside.
The Harriers have generously donated more than £120,000 to local charities during 14 years of the Half Marathon.
The 5k is now in its fifth year. East Cheshire Hospice has received £73,000 of that overall donation, providing vital care for patients with lifelimiting illnesses and their families.
Online entries close on September 20.
The cost for the Half Marathon is £24 for non-affiliated runners, £21 affiliated, with £10 and £8 respectively for the 5k.
Entries are accepted on the day but with an additional cost.
There is also a fun run which is £3 on the day. For full details and entry, go to www. macc-half.co.uk.
Organisers have introduced three optional team elements: ●● Active Macc for sports and exercise clubs and community groups ●● Ronhill Corporate Challenge for businesses ●● Schools Challenge for pupils, parents, staff and governors.
