Sir Alex’s picture to be top draw at art auction fundraiser

-

A DOODLE by Sir Alex Ferguson will be one of the auction items at Art Fair 2016 at Macclesfield Town Hall from Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 25.

The former Manchester United manager’s drawing of a man in a flat cap under a lamplight will help raise funds for East Cheshire Hospice.

Sir Alex’s illustration – many described his football at Old Trafford as a work of art – is part of a Wall of Fame on which celebrities have designed and donated postcards to be auctioned off for the charity.

Contributors include musician Noddy Holder, football pundit Robbie Savage, Coronation Street actor William Roache, BBC presenter Nick Robinson, cartoonist Tony Husband, hospice patron Terry Waite and chefs Simon Rimmer and Rosemary Shrager.

Actor Charlie Lawson, a hospice vice president, has also written a poem and all items will be open for bids while on view at the Art Fair.

They can also be seen at www.theartofcaring.org. uk.

Any bidders for a Wall of Fame item unable to visit the Art Fair can contact organisers at info@theartofcaring.org. uk.

Art Fair 2016, a biennial event run entirely by volunteers, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

It is one of the most respected art events in the north west, attracting thousands of visitors.

Admission to the town hall is free and opening times are 10am to 5pm each day with a 3pm finish on the final Sunday, Treacle Market day.

It will be closed on Sunday, September 18.

The event showcases work by more than 100 local and regional artists.

Exhibitors donate at least 35 per cent from the sale of their work to the hospice, with some donating the full amount.

Organisers are hoping to top the £55,000 raised from the previous Art Fair and some of the funds raised will support art therapy for hospice patients.

All proceeds from a pop-up café, raffle and sale of the catalogues will also go to the hospice.
