Hundreds raised with run

-

A PLAYER from Prestbury Football Club has raised hundreds of pounds by taking on a 10K run.

George Barker, 16, and Catherine Robinson, whose son Ben plays for the team, set out to raise £500 for the new Prestbury Youth Club building with the Bollington 10K challenge.

They exceeded their target by raising £640, which will be added to the £2,000 that AFC Prestbury has received from the Professional Footballers’ Association.

The building, at Bollin Grove, will be shared with the AFC Prestbury Youth Football Club, who will use the changing facilities and pitch there.

George, who has run the race for the last three years, completed the course in just 39 minutes and finished in 10th place, while Catherine finished in ‘a fantastic’ 47 minutes and was the ninth female runner to cross the finish line.

April Green, chair of the youth club, said: “The whole of AFC Prestbury football team as well as parents and children from the youth club cheered on the runners.

“It was an amazing effort by George and Catherine and we’re over the moon with their donation.”

Youth club members lost their old home, Ford House, in 2008 when the 19th century building was declared unfit on health and safety grounds.

Youth club and football club members have taken part in various fundraising tasks to get cash for their new home, including a bag pack and jumble sale.
