MBBC step up to plate for challenge

INTREPID super athletes from Macclesfie­ld Boys Boxing Club took on the 108 step challenge recently.

This consisted of starting at the bottom of a set of steps, running up one, down one, then up two and down two, then three and four right the way up to the 108th step.

The official overseeing the challenge was Tom Munday, currently studying sports science at Sheffield University. Having done the challenge himself previously he knew how hard it was.

MBBC had advertised the event on social media via the Facebook page and the response was impressive as the community of Macclesfie­ld pledged money even coming down and supporting the boxers on the day, we even had a few none boxers turn up on the day to test themselves against the MBBC team.

It was a fantastic event with the Nags Head pub offering use of the public house if anyone wanted a drink or to use the toilets, which was deeply appreciate­d on the day.

The weather was fine and this resulted in some good times with varied ages and fitness levels, everyone spurred each other on but on the day it was Ross Patterson who recorded the fastest time completing the challenge with nearly 12,000 steps in 56 minutes.

He used this to motivate himself for the imminent senior national developmen­t championsh­ips and making the 69kg weight limit.

An absolute fantastic day great camaraderi­e from everyone who took part and a fantastic figure of £506 raised for the club who will use the money to ensure the club carries on serving the community of Macclesfie­ld, making the club accessible to all who want enter the square ring.

The day being such an brilliant event, the club intend to make it an annual challenge offering anyone who thinks they can beat Ross to step up and take on the 108 step challenge.
