Tigers sign off with silverware
MACCLESFIELD Cricket Club U9s entered the final event of the season and walked away with the trophy. They finished the season with yet another tournament win, to the delight of parents and players!
The Lindow U9s Tournament began with each team playing their first stage matches in one of the groups. After four matches, the Macclesfield Tigers then progressed undefeated to the next stage. A gruelling semi final saw them beat South Manchester Cricket Club, to make it through to the final, where they went on to beat Congleton and lift the trophy!
Simon Ackerley, the Tiger’s Coach, said: “The Tigers lifted the trophy undefeated. They played some fantastic cricket with some very comfortable wins.
“An excellent way to end the season”.
In was a long day for the teams with the final not finishing until almost 7pm but despite some tired cricketers all the players continued to play with the skills and determination they have developed and shown all season.
Duncan Ross, U9s Coach said “All of the players scored some bril- liantly struck fours and unbelievable sixes as well as taking a number of superb wickets. A perfect end to a really successful season”.
This weekend, Macclesfield Cricket Club will be holding what they hope to be their academy’s end of season fundraiser and that means the circus is coming to town!
The National Festival Circus will be at the Cricket Club this Sunday 18th September with 3 shows during the afternoon. The big top will be erected from 8:30am on Sunday morning for those wanting a sneak preview and the first show starts at 1pm.
Jo Boyd one of the circus orgnaisers said “It will be a fantastic family event. The bar will be open and the BBQ running all afternoon so people will be able to get something to eat and drink.
“Not only is it set to be a great day but it’s also a fantastic opportunity for the academy to raise some funds which will hugely benefit the academy players next season”.
