Booth brace sees Ladies beat Leek

- MACCLESFIELD TOWN LADIES

MACCLESFIELD Town Ladies kicked off their new football season in style with victory at Leek.

Sporting their new away kit sponsored by L Woodward & Sons Warehousing and Distribution, the Ladies fought back from a goal down with Whitehead putting in a perfect corner for Fletcher to head home.

Booth then drove forward in to the Leek penalty area and curled a superb effort in to the far corner, putting Macclesfield 2-1 up at half-time.

Leek were determined to make a game of it and for large periods of the second half it was end to end stuff.

Macclesfield had the defensive pairing of Woodward and Fogarty to thank on a number of occasions plus a fine one on one save from Coombes in goal.

It was Macclesfield though who got the final goal of the game with Woodward sending Booth through on goal. Booth ran 30 yards with the ball and calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner to get her second and Macclesfield’s third.

After a tempestuous couple of months during the closed season Macclesfield Town Ladies FC were only represented this week on Moss Farm by the new look U13s, and quite apt that there opponent’s were named Hartford Hurricanes.

But no need to worry as MTLFC blew them away with scant regard winning 4-1.

The first 10 minutes was a close fought affair with Hartford Hurricanes taking the lead though lack of concentration in defence, but it wasn’t long before MTLFC were back on terms with well worked move down the lefthand side for Susanna Bridgett slotting in the equaliser.

Hartford Hurricanes helped MTLFC cause with an own goal, again well worked move coming down the lefthand side cross from Susannah Bridgett with defender putting the ball in the back of the net.

The second half started with MTLFC commanding the centre of the park, passing and moving the ball with ease, with two well worked moves resulting in Lily Fallon scoring twice, and could have got a hattrick but for the goalie making great save.

Other notable performances coming from Dids Parish whose work rate in defence was commendable, with great tackling tackling, setting up moves and organising her defence.

A promising performance from this well balanced team.

The club is currently looking for new players aged 7-18 who would be interested in playing football, with regular training sessions taking place on Macclesfield Academy all weather pitch, Monday and Wednesday nights.
