Halls happy to put frustration behind him

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town captain Andy Halls was delighted to return to the starting line-up on Saturday after completing his three match suspension following a red card.

The 24-year-old defender made an instant impact on his return, helping the team keep a clean sheet as they ran out 1-0 winners at Bromley.

Halls hasn’t played for Macc since he was shown a red card against Sutton United earlier this season.

He was furious with that decision, and still feels that the referee made a mistake, but he’s now putting that behind him and was glad to return.

“I’m delighted to be back. It was disappointing to get a three game ban from a tackle which I didn’t feel was a red but that’s football,” he told the club’s official website.

“Everyone I spoke to have said their opinion was different from the referee, but he is the most important person there. It’s something I can learn from in the future.

“It’s been frustrating as a captain and a player that wants to play every single game.

“The last three games I haven’t been there and they have done brilliantly, especially last Saturday.”

Halls isn’t the only one who was unhappy with the red card he received against Sutton, as Macclesfield assistant manager Steve Watson echoed the same sentiments.

“Halls is now back from suspension which we felt was harsh, it was a hard tackle but it was a tackle that should be allowed in football,” said Watson.

“We’re delighted to have the skipper back, he’s not only good on the pitch but he’s very good in the dressing room.”

Halls was named Macclesfield captain during the summer after Paul Turnbull left the club to join Barrow.

Halls has spent the last three years with the Silkmen, making over 100 appearances for the team.
