Sainsbury’s marks 25th

-

A SUPERMARKET has celebrated 25 years at its town centre location.

Sainsbury’s, which has been in Macclesfield since 1980, moved to its Cumberland Street location on September 12, 1991.

To celebrate the occasion, customers and staff old and new were invited to a series of celebrations.

Isobel Cuthbert, who has worked at the store since it opened, was given the honour of cutting the ribbon to ‘re-open’ the store on the special day, and Pam Childs, who has also worked at the store for 25 years, was another special guest.

There was a party at Macclesfield Golf Club, where there was a barbecue served by Culinary Craft, a raffle, and an awards ceremony.

And customers were included in the celebrations for a special party and ‘re-opening’ of the store, enjoying bucks fizz and cake as they shopped.

Former colleagues were then invited to an ‘open house’ where they enjoyed a buffet lunch.

Anthony Clegg, store manager, said: “We are extremely proud of our store and of course with all of the great people we have met along the way, whether that be colleagues past and present, customers or the many charities that we have been a part of.

“We would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for helping to make us what we are today and for helping us to celebrate this special day.”
