Historic farmhouse rises from ashes
AHOUSE that was ravaged by fire more than 18 months ago has been lovingly restored and is up for sale.
Jim and Ann Marchant spent nine years renovating their dream home at Longclough Farm, on Buxton New Road in Macclesfield Forest.
But the historic building – which dates back to 1638 – was destroyed by a dramatic blaze in February 2015.
It was devastating for the family who had painstakingly restored the property and lived in a caravan on the site on Buxton New Road for two and half years during the refurbishment.
Now it has been restored once again and is ready for its new owners.
Laura Jane Mayall, who carried out the renovations, said: “Longclough is part of the history of the Peak National Park and is an important building on the Cat and Fiddle Road.
“The place had been completely open to the elements for almost 12 months and was in an awful mess. Around 25 tonnes of stone roof needed to be completely replaced before we could make a start on the inside.
“But we are so lucky to be among those people who come along and lovingly repair and restore buildings, before passing them on to the new owners.”
The house is for sale under the management of Laura Jane Percival, from Macclesfield estate agent Meller Braggins, who will be hosting an open house event on Saturday, October 8, between 11am and 1pm, when prospective buyers are encouraged to go along.
