Ed’s rallying to the cause

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

NORTH East Cheshire Business Awards has been celebrating the best in business for the past six years.

Another huge part of the event is its support of local charities, and it has raised many £1,000s for local causes since it was first established.

This year Ed Williams, owner of Williams& Crosby, an ongoing spon- sor of the event, has taken his support for the charity one step further by taking part in a madcap rally challenge.

Ed, 54, and his pal John Shoulds, have embarked upon the ‘Ramshackle Rally’ and will attempt to cover 3,000 miles across Europe in an old banger in support of the Children’s Adventure Farms Trust, which has been chosen as the benefactor of the 2016 awards.

The duo - who are travelling in a pimped up Volvo decorated with the retro Porsche Martini race team branding - will also be delivering special ‘K dolls’ to hospital wards along the route. The dolls, which are designed to help healthcare professionals explain hospital procedures to children, have been donated by AGFA Healthcare.

Ed, who lives in Alderley Edge with wife Sally and daughters Ella and Sophie, said: “We are doing a Ramshackle Rally to raise profile for the Awards and sponsorship for the Awards official charity.

“Any sponsorship raised will be going to The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, the NECB Awards official charity for 2016 and who provide breaks for terminally ill and under privileged children in the region.”

The children’s charity was chosen as this year’s benefactor after organisers invited local charities to submit their applications.

But it will be the winner of this year’s ‘Charity of the year’ award which will benefit from the support at next year’s event, making entries into this year’s competition more competitive than ever.

Sue Bowden, from Mac- clesfield Chamber, lead organisers of the awards, said: “Ramshackle Team Williams&Crosby have already secured £2,000 sponsorship which is being donated to the Awards Charity of the Year ‘The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust’ - the car has been liveried up and can’t fail to be noticed, so will seriously put North East Cheshire on the map. The closing date for entries is fast approaching and there are literally now only days left to get your entries in, so don’t miss out on being part of this fantastic business event.”

The closing date for entries is Friday, September 30. Entry is free and forms are available vianecb awards.co.uk.
