Hundreds flock to village show
PRESTBURY Village Show saw the Village Hall ablaze in colour again as more than 250 visitors turned out to see this year’s creative exhibits.
Crowds flocked through the doors to view stunning flower arrangements and wacky fruit sculptures while enjoying tea and homemade cakes with friends.
Rose Queen Julia Trier and Rosebud Maggie Humphreys presented trophies to the winners of the various categories at the end of the afternoon, with Roy Harrison winning the President’s Bowl for most first prizes in the show, and Helen Jarvis taking home trophies for the best exhibit and best overall winner in the vegetable classes, as well as the Banksian medal awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society for best vegetable exhibits.
Lydia Ellmore scooped the Eileen Webb cup for the best exhibit in the children’s classes.
Mary Hindle, secretary of Prestbury Gardening Club, whose members help organise the show, said: “There was a great atmosphere charged with anticipation and excitement to see who had won first prize from the very high standard of exhibits.
“The standard was particularly high in the flower classes, making the judge’s decision very difficult. The flowers in the main hall were particularly striking and entries were well up on previous years.”
She also praised local businesses for backing the event. She said: “The committee of Prestbury Gardening Club is indebted to sponsors from local businesses for their support.”
The next meeting of the gardening club is on October 20 at 2pm in the Village Hall when the speaker will take members on a tour of Irish gardens. New members are always welcome.
