New film aims to support artists
AN artist and producer has filmed a documentary which explores Macclesfield’s underground art scene.
Mathew Goodman spent two years recording his experiences of events, gigs and festivals, delving into the often unseen culture in the town.
The 34-year-old is now looking for a venue to show his documentary which is called: What, so you make tunes and s***, yeah?
He is also hoping to start a debate about the need for new facilities, support and funding for the town’s art scene as a way of retaining talent rather than lose it to Manchester or London.
The dad-of-one runs Sound Soldier Productions, a network for like-minded artists.
Matthew, of Bedford Close, said: “What I have found during the experience of making this documentary is that Macclesfield has a lot of untapped potential.
“Barnaby and big events like that tap into one layer of creative people in this town, but there are loads of brilliant people out there waiting to be discovered who just need support.
“I am talking about young people who get great training at schools and colleges and then feel it necessary to make their mark by leaving for Manchester or London.
“Then there are those who are on benefits, many because of disabilities, whose talent is wasted because they don’t have the money or access to equipment to pursue their dreams.
“Then there are the hobbyists who, with some help, could turn their creative skill into a professional career in art, design or media industries. If the town could support this talent we could retain it.”
Mathew wants to turn the screening of his documentary into a fundraising event for the Churches Conservation Trust which is restoring Christ Church, often a venue for art projects. If you can help Mathew get the project off the ground, email him at mathewgoodman@ me.com.
