Golf day will raise funds to help in bid for new cricket clubhouse
CRICKET club members are holding a fundraising golf day to help their bid to raise money for a new clubhouse.
Players and supporters at Langley Cricket Club are taking part in fundraising activities to extend and modernise the building.
As part of this the team are hosting a fundraising golf day at Macclesfield Golf Club to raise more cash.
Matt Stevens, from Langley Cricket Club who is helping run the event, said: “We’re holding our first golf day and would be delighted if people join us to enjoy a fantastic day of superb golf and dining while raising much needed funds towards our clubhouse extension project.
“The plans are now up in the clubhouse with a fundraising target of £10,000 by spring 2017.
“We’ve had a great start towards our target but of course still have a long way to go.
“We have been taking donations of prizes from local organisations for the raffle and sponsorship from businesses.”
The clubhouse was built in the 70s but the interior has not been brought up to modern standards.
Langley Cricket Club started a junior section two years ago and has been running various teams for different age ranges.
With this increase in demand by local children the team took the decision to renovate the clubhouse.
The committee consulted with the community with a questionnaire and needs to raise £10,000 towards to cost of between £50,000 and £60,000 to pay for the project. They will then apply for grant funding for the shortfall.
Matt said: “As a club we’ve made huge strides over the last five years. The one area that we urgently need to improve is the inside of the clubhouse.
“We hope to give the wider community a fantastic multi purpose facility to be proud of.
“We need to raise more money than we’ve ever raised for an individual project. Our club turnover is less than what we are wanting to raise for this project alone. I would ask any companies or individuals who want to get involved and help to please get in touch.”
The golf day is at Macclesfield Golf Club on September 30. There will be registration from 11.30am, start at 2pm, competitions, a twocourse meal, prize giving, auction and raffle
