Glorious views on town walk
RESIDENTS enjoyed glorious views of Bollington on a traditional walk of the boundary of the town.
The Mayor’s Boundary Walk was hosted by mayor Allan Williams and started from Bollington Town Hall with an invitation for residents to join a walk around the perimeter of the town.
The walk upholds a tradition which originally dates back many centuries to when parish boundaries were less defined and were used as a way of passing information about the local borders from one generation to the next.
The modern Bollington boundary lies only partly on public rights of way, such as along the Saddle of Kerridge.
Other sections of the walk follow the nearest or most logical right of way, wherever possible avoiding roads to the actual boundary.
The walk is 8.5 miles long and includes some hill walking. There was a short stop at The Windmill Inn, for drinks and lunch people were given the option to end their walk there.
This meant some good views for participants.
Coun Williams said: “Everyone enjoyed the walk and the fantastic weather provided some stunning views of the Bollington countryside.
“I would like to see more people taking part in the Boundary Walk and encourage everyone to consider joining next year.”
The Boundary Walk took place ahead of the Bollington Walking Festival, which runs from Saturday, September 24 to Sunday, October 2 and involves walks for various abilities.
There was another civic event at the weekend with the Civic Sunday Parade and Service, which incorporated The Battle of Britain Commemoration.
