Lymm let off hook by late missed chance

- HOCKEY

ON Saturday Macclesfield ladies’ first team traveled to Lymm to play their second league game of the season, this time against Lymm.

Having got off to a flying start last week, they were keen to carry on this winning streak but on the day were forced to settle for a draw.

Lymm pressed very hard and high, keeping the ball and making it very difficult for Macc to get any hold on the game.

In the opening 10 minutes Macclesfield did a lot of chasing, trying to close the play down and regain possession.

On a very hot day it was an arduous, laborious task to keep running to try and break down Lymms formidable passing.

Macc’s persistence paid off as the ball weaved its way into Lymm’s half and was picked up in midfield by Sarah Duffy who quickly moved it to Thea Losa on the right who swept the ball sweetly passed a diving Lymm keeper.

Two goals from Lymm followed, forcing Macc to take chances and step up or admit defeat.

This was not to be an option so Macc continued to press, which enabled Laura Collins to break out of a Lymm onslaught, releasing quickly to Claire Barlow.

Barlow was able to find Sarah Duffy just outside the D who travelled into the box with Liv Richardson to her left in support. Sarah Duffy decided to go it alone and was able to secure Macc’s second.

Another attack before the final whistle nearly saw the away team steal all three points but unfortunately the contest ended in a draw and just one point had to be accepted.

Man of the match given by opposition was awarded to Liv Richardson and players player went to Ange Duffy.
