Civic pride on show at parade and service for community
MEMBERS of the community came out for the Bollington Civic Sunday Parade and Service.
The Town Mayor of Bollington, coun Allan Williams, held his parade and service as a showcase for some of the community’s organisations and to celebrate Bollington’s residents.
The parade set off from the Bollington Community Centre car park on Ovenhouse Lane and involved Bollington Town Councillors, civic guests and representatives from local uniformed organisations.
Cadets from the Air Training Corps formed part of the parade along with the sea cadets.
Bollington Brass Band led the parade along Ovenhouse Lane, Crossfield Road, South West Avenue, East Avenue, Heath Road, Princess Drive and across Bollington Road to St Oswald’s Church for the service.
The service was led by the mayor’s Chaplain, the Rev Canon Veronica Hydon and the mayor presented the Civic Awards at the reception following the service, at Bollington Cross Primary School.
The mayor spoke during the service to commemorate the Battle of the Somme and also gave a reading of Binyon’s “For the Fallen”.
Coun Williams said: “The weather was again fantastic with the local community turning out along the route.
“The Church Service at St Oswald’s was very well attended and at the reception I was delighted to present awards to well-deserving members of our community.
“I presented Civic Awards to Andrew Longden for his work in obtaining funds from local organisations to place defibrillators throughout the town and Flight Lieutenant Alan Bethell from 236 (Bollington) Squadron Air Training Corps for his tireless dedication to the Air Training Corps and the young people of Bollington and the surrounding area.”
