Cricketers raise cash in Callum’s memory

-

MEMBERS of Prestbury Cricket club have raised a fantastic £800 for local causes.

The money was raised at an auction and raffle during the club’s summer dinner dance, at the Bridge Hotel, and will be donated in memory Callum Ballantine - a friend of many of the members.

Callum died of osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, on 20 December 2015 at the age of just 19. While undergoing treatment at the Christie hospital in Manchester he and his best friend Samir Kamani developed the t-shirt brand, Made From Manchester, and donated all profits to Teenage Cancer Trust, who were supporting him through his treatment. To date more than £200,000 has been raised in his memory. The funds raised will be split between the Teenage Cancer Trust and cricket club funds.

Chairman of Prestbury cricket club, Bill Livesley, said: “We were made aware of Callum’s fund by one of our cricket players Ben Milner, who raised funds himself last winter. We hope to hold another event in 2017 and as a club we will be making people aware of Teenage Cancer Trust and its aims and achievements.”

Vanessa Simmons, regional fundraising manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We are delighted that Prestbury Cricket Club chose to support Teenage Cancer Trust at their dinner. As a charity we rely on voluntary donations and the support of the local community through events like these to ensure young people with cancer and their families have access to the best possible care and support. A huge thank you to everyone involved for their support and help in raising awareness and funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.”
