Perfect ten as Macc Ladies blitz Bowdon

- HOCKEY

MACCLESFIELD Ladies 1s were at home for their third league game of the season, to Bowdon 4s on Saturday and enjoyed a comfortable 10-0 victory.

For the first 20 minutes Macclesfield had all of the play but were very unlucky not to score.

Some fine saves from the Bowdon goalkeeper made Macc’s forward line very frustrated but undeterred.

They had shot after shot but the ball just wouldn’t hit the back boards.

Sarah Wheeler was first off the mark and sunk the ball home after nifty play from Angela Duffy.

Fiona Collins stepped up next after Laura Collins switched play and sent a long ball across the pitch which Collins travelled 50 yards or more to slot home number two.

Wheeler secured her second not long after with a fine strike from the top of the D.

Macc were on fire as the first half came to a close but clearly thirsty for more.

Straight from the start of the second half Macc pressed and forced errors, this time Claire Barlow was able to open her goal tally and she added two more before full time.

Bowdon were unable to find any rhythm as the Macc defence thwarted any such attacks.

Emma Houghton skilfully weaved her magic and scored four goals before time was called five minutes early as injury to the Bowdon keeper needed emergency medical attendance.

A very high scoring game with very little to bother the home defence. Macclesfield move to second in Cheshire League Division 1, with a great goal difference. Man of the match went to Fiona Collins while Sarah Wheeler was awarded players’ player.
