Scott wants in on play-off push
NEW Macclesfield Town signing Scott Flinders says he has joined the club on loan as he believes they have what it takes to earn promotion this season.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has arrived at the Moss Rose on an initial one-month deal from York City, and made his debut during the 2-1 win at Guiseley on Saturday.
He’s looking forward to his time with the Silkmen, and hopes to help them in their quest to get back into the Football League.
“You look at certain teams during the season and Macc have always been up there. It’s my first time playing in the National League as well, and I think if you can put a winning run together you’ll be right up there, that’s why I wanted to come here this season,” he told the club’s official website.
“I got a call at the start of last week to see if I wanted to play some games. As a footballer you get judged as you play games. I’ve played a lot of games in my career and it’s a great opportunity at a good club to carry on doing that.
“There’s a mixed group here of some young lads and some more experienced players. They’re a great bunch of guys and are doing well in the league so hopefully we can push on and carry on moving up.”
Flinders has already gone up against Macclesfield once this season, keeping a clean sheet during York’s 1-0 win back in August in what he thought was an extremely tight affair.
“I thought it was a drumroll all through the game, and then obviously York nicked it towards the end,” he said. “Games are coming thick and fast this month, so it’s a chance to get out on the pitch and challenge yourself. Sometimes as a footballer you want the tough games, so it’s a good test.”
Flinders began his professional career with Barnsley in 2003, before joining Crystal Palace in 2006.
Loan spells at Gillingham, Brighton, Yeovil, Blackpool and Falkirk followed, before joining Hartlepool United in 2009.
It was at Hartlepool where he enjoyed his most game time, making over 250 appearances for the club and even scoring a goal for them during a match against Bournemouth in 2011.
He left for York in 2015, and had made over 50 appearances for them in all competitions before deciding to head to the Moss Rose.
