Carving donated to cricket club
A SPECIALLY made wood carving has been donated to Langley Cricket Club.
The five foot wood carving has the club name ‘Langley CC’ carved using a chainsaw and provides a focal point for the club for visitors and opposition teams.
It was made and donated by wood carver Glen Urquhart, who lives in Macclesfield and runs Glen Urquhart Chainsaw Carvings, and came about because Matt Stevens from the cricket club has known Glen since they went to school.
The donation is a welcome addition to the club which is having a facelift with fundraising underway for an extension and refurbishment.
Matt Stevens of Langley CC said: “I’ve known Glen for a long time and when I saw the wood carvings he was producing on Facebook I thought what a great and unique centre piece a carving at the club could be. We had a think about what to make and Glen came up with idea of the Langley CC carving. We are delighted to have it at the club and thank Glen for his really kind donation.”
Glen has been chainsaw carving for more than three years after leaving an office job to pursue a more creative career.
He said: “Spending my days outdoors covered in sawdust has brought me a lot more happiness than being stuck behind a desk. I have created owls in tree stumps, a fairy house in a localpre-school and furniture from fallen trunks. I’ve been friends with Matt since school. We grew up in Siddington where I carve a lot of my pieces. When Matt asked me about a carving, it was a great opportunity. I got to help my friend out as well as help out this wonderful local club.”
