Macclesfield Express

YOUR ACTOR

-

IName: Stephen Clayton. Hometown: Macclesfield. Job: Astra Zeneca. Which theatre company are you involved with?: Macclesfield Majestic Theatre Group. Are you taking part in any productions at the moment?: I am involved in the MMTG’s forthcoming production of Return to the Forbidden Planet. Who is your character in the play?: I play Captain Tempest who along with his fearless crew go on a journey into hyperspace... and beyond. How long have you been with the society for?: Over 30 years now! What do you like/dislike about the character you are currently playing?: am a sci-fi nerd so being the captain of a spaceship is a bit of a dream come true. I also get to slide down a fireman’s pole in the show. What do you most enjoy?: The singing. The songs in this show are all 1950s classics like Great Balls of Fire, Young Girl and It’s a Man’s World. Have you been in any other productions?: Yes, too many to mention but I have played Jesus three times now, once in Godspell and twice in Jesus Christ Superstar which the society did last year to great acclaim. Who is your favourite actor and why?: Oooohhh, I have so many favourites but I think I would have to say the Monty Python guys as I am a massive fan. If you could play any part what would it be and why?: Sweeney Todd. I played the role for the MMTG in 2001 and loved it. He is such a complex character and baddies are always really good to play. Are you involved in any other projects at the moment?: Not at the moment although, straight after this show, the group start preparing for their pantomime, The Little Mermaid, so I may get involved with that. What do you most enjoy about doing this?: Performing with my eldest son, Luke, is very special. Any memorable/funny moments or highlights from this?: Something funny happens at most rehearsals and there is lots of laughter. This adored and criticallyacclaimed Olivier award-winning rock spectacular is inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest and packed with rock ‘n’ roll classics such as Wipeout!,Young Girl, Great Balls of Fire and Gloria. With stunning effects and a brilliant cast of actors and musicians this is a great night out to remember. With Kevin Clarke producing and choreographing the show and with Ian Jones as our musical director, we are staging this hit musical at the Little Theatre, Lord St, Macclesfield from Monday, October 3, until Saturday, October 8, each evening at 7.30pm. Tickets are now on sale and the booking hotline 07875 149943 is now open. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketsource.co. uk/mmtg or www.mmtg. co.uk
