-

A SERIOUSLY ill boy has won a national award recognising his courage.

Ollie Carroll, from Poynton, has been recognised by children’s charity WellChild as a winner at its annual awards.

After being nominated by his mum Lucy and dad Mike, the five-year-old who has Battens Disease, was selected in the Inspirational Child category.

Ollie’s mum Lucy said: “We are so incredibly proud of Ollie. He is our inspiration and we keep going because he does. He shows so much courage and determination to fight this disease. Ollie has been through so much in his short life but always has a smile on his face. For him to win this award and know that other people who aren’t his parents also think he’s inspirational feels incredible. He absolutely deserves it. It’s going to be a very emotional night for us all, but one we will cherish forever. Thank you so much. Well done Olliebobs.”

The awards are judged by a panel of medical professionals, people with an interest in children’s health, and young people suffering serious illnesses.

Linda Partridge, WellChild’s director of programmes, said: “All the panel members are moved by the bravery of the children, the stories of selfless care and support and the dedication of the doctors, nurses, teachers, brothers and sisters who make a great difference to the lives of seriously ill children and young people.”
