Call for comment on 2030 plan
RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on how Poynton will grow in the next 20 years.
Poynton’s Neighbourhood Plan sets out a raft of policies dealing with the Green Belt, housing, transport, the town centre and business, and health and wellbeing.
Once agreed, it will provide a legally binding document which will guide the scale and nature of development in Poynton for years to come.
The first draft of the plan is now available to the public after extensive work by Poynton Town Council, supported by a team of volunteers.
Housing is a key concern for Poynton, because the Local Plan claims the town needs to build 650 new homes and proposes changes to the green belt boundary to achieve it.
There are also proposals for Sovereign House, the empty office block, to make it a centre for small businesses and start-ups; apartments or hotel.
A six week consultation runs until November 11. That feedback will feed into a final version submitted to Cheshire East Borough Council, which will check for compliance with both national and local planning policies. The village will then get a chance to vote for it and if more than half are in favour it is agreed.
Malcolm Adams, from the steering group, said: “All Poynton residents and others are strongly urged to participate in the six week consultation stage - this is the last opportunity to comment on and amend the Plan before it goes forward to the next stage in the process. The plan can be viewed via www. poyntonnp.org.uk, hard copies will be at the Civic Hall and library, and public sessions on October 22 and November 2.
