Shoulder blow frustrates Bradley

- BOXING SHELDAN KEAY

IT’S been another busy time for Macclesfield Boy’s Boxing Club with boxers involved in two separate shows.

MBBC boxer Joe Bradley recently had his first proper contest against Jack Edge from Jimmy Egan’s club.

Round one saw the pair getting the measure of each other as they exchanged blows.

Both lads were very strong and offloaded a lot of shots in a very fast paced round which took its toll on Bradley and as the bell rang he expressed that his shoulder was hurting to the coaches but was willing to go out for the second.

This proved to be a mistake as not long in too the second Bradley was unable to continue which was a shame as the first round had been a well matched exchange and was looking to be a good contest.

Bradley was upset but lives to fight another a day and after the bout was told to rest his shoulder up for the next few days.

Danny Hibbert then had his first bout of the new season on a separate show, as he took on Leigh ABC boxer Harvey Ashcroft.

With most of the gym out to support Jake Haigh in his professional debut, it was down to Donna Shaw to stand the corner for Danny.

Round one saw Hibbert find his range. Being a tall kid, he was going to sit behind his long jab against Ashcroft, who was a lot shorter and proceeded to push on coming forward in bursts, but Hibbert kept it at range scoring at will.

Round two was much the same as Ashcroft tried his best to get under Hibbert’s shots and work on the inside.

Hibbert looked comfortable and took instruction from the corner to keep long and was enjoying the contest.

Round three and Ashcroft sensed that he needed a stoppage to win this bout.

He came out like a bull but unflustered Hibbert used the ring and proceeded to pick Ashcroft off.

Ashcroft was no pushover though and kept going right up to the bell, but Hibbert was the victor by unanimous decision.
