Atkin on top in Macc Flag day

MACCLESFIE­LD ladies played a Flag competitio­n and Catherine Atkin led in with 73 from Wendy Higgins 75 and June Sumner 77,

Macc Seniors have one board competitio­n for the Founders Foursomes and the proud winners with 70.5 were Pete Ormesher and Mike Guerin.

The Balmoral Shield is another coveted trophy at Macc and it was won with a fine 63 by Jamie Robinson from Andy Baker 65, Jake Bowers 66 and Paul Tovee 68.

Alderley Edge’s men played a ‘major. For the Harold Humphreys Trophy and cricket legend Rick Ford showed his sporting skills posting a fantastic 62 to finish four clear of Tom Troup and Paul Gosling.

Edge’s ladies played a singles Stableford and Gwyneth Holt was out on her own with 39 points from Olwen Davies 35 and Mary O’Toole 34.

The Past Captain’s Trophy at Styal was won by in-form Derek Lamb with 33 points from Harry Reid 32 and Ivan Bloor, Neville Barker and Kevin Bocquet all 30.

A Stableford for Styal Seniors had Peter Robins in charge with 38 points, one more than Neil Appleby.

Styal ladies were also in Stableford mode with Mel Hill posting 36 points to finish ahead of Joan Doyle 33 and Liz Dabrowski 30.

Captain’s day at Shrigley Hall was won by Mark Kleynhans with 69 and in hot pursuit on 70 were Michael Burgess and Mike Powell.

A midweek medal at Mottram Hall had Josh Towne in total control with 63, six shots better than Robert Parry, Paul Mooney and John Mooney.

A BB Stableford at Davenport saw Roger Wheeler and Chris Bamford cruise to victory with 46 points, four more than Don Sutherland and Gareth Winstanley.

The final competitio­n of the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Associatio­n’s season finished in style at the fantastic Wilmslow Golf Club.

It was a Greensome Stableford and attracted a record field of 96 players who enjoyed a course in superb condition and with generally fine weather.

It was the last competitio­n for the 2016 MDLGA President Chris Kelly (Bramhall Golf Club) and she certainly enjoyed it to the full as the top three placings on the day all involved players from her own club.

The winners were Les- ley Williams and Linda Waller from Bramhall who posted a fine score of 39 points as they played with the President and her partner Janet Smith (Wilmslow).

Chris and Janet finished in second place after winning a cpo on 36 points from Bramhall’s Ali Hicks and Maria Spencer.

Chris said: “It was a certainly a day to remember for myself and Bramhall Golf Club and I would like to thank the members of the MDLGA committee who worked so hard to make this a fine competitio­n and also to all of the members of staff and volunteers from the Wilmslow club for their help on the day.
