KERRIDGE AND RAINOW Civic pride on show at special service for village community
VILLAGE residents turned out to celebrate the pride of their community at a civic service.
Rainow Parish Council hosted the service, which aims to showcase those who represent the village and recognise the contribution of its residents.
It was held at Holy Trinity Church on Pedley Hill.
Vicar Lesley Lewis led the service and Over Alderley Brass Band accompanied the hymn singing.
Among the guests were the Mayor of Cheshire East coun Olivia Hunter, the Mayor of Macclesfield coun Alift Harewood- Jones, Poynton Town Mayor Councillor Sandra Horsman and ward councillor for Cheshire East Hilda Gaddum.
Macclesfield MP David Rutley and representatives from Bollington Town Council, Disley Parish Council, Higher Hurdsfield Parish Council and Pott Shrigley Parish Council were also among those at the service.
A special presentation was made to the outgoing headteacher of Rainow Primary School who left his role this summer after 18 years.
Mark Bertinshaw, who is now the Mayor of Rainow, left his post to take semi retirement, continuing to work by mentoring trainee teachers, and is replaced by Jonathan Norris.
Alan Brett, who is Rainow Parish Council vice chairman, presented Mr Bertinshaw with his award.
He said: “I was pleased to present Mr Bertinshaw with flowers for his outstanding contribution over the years to the community of Rainow.
“The service was a great success.
“The boys and girls from beavers, cubs and guides attended, along with Rose Queen Bella Clayton and her attendants to make the morning even more special.”
