Gross final victory for Macc’s juniors

MACCLESFIE­LD Golf Club junior team have enjoyed a great season and capped it by reaching two of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Junior League finals.

The first was the Knock Out final played at Hazel Grove against Cavendish GC and it proved to an exciting contest, played in great spirit, with all of the players enjoying themselves and having good fun in ideal playing conditions.

Three of the matches went to the final hole but Cavendish emerged as the winners.

The Macc team put this defeat behind them as a few days later they played the gross final at the neutral venue of Davenport against Mellor and Townscliff­e.

The team of Ollie Tovee, Tom Hollingwor­th, Tom Silcock, Simon Montalvo and Tom Kirton pulled off a great result to bring the coveted trophy back to Macc.

Macc juniors played for the President’s Shield and in a close finish in division one Mitchell Hodgson won a cpo on 71 from Ollie Tovee with George Wright in third place and William Greenwood posted a suprb 65 to top division two.

Macc’s men played for the Centenary Trophy and in division one the top scores came from Dave Tomlinson 68 and John Poole, Gavin Finlow and Trevor Lancaster, all 70.

Dave Sherratt led in division two with 68 well clear of Marcus Dennerley and Graham Sumner, both 74.

The Nish Trophy for Prestbury juniors was played for in a singles Stableford and a string of impressive scores was led in by Matthew Salt with 42 points ahead of Cameron Tebay 41 and Josh Turnock 39.

A Blue Course Challenge at Prestbury for a mixed field was won by Gillian Clewley with 40 points from Margaret Simons 39 and John Woof and Alan McGuigam, both 37.

In the Autumn Stable- ford for Prestbury’s men a triple tie on 36 points in division one went in favour of Peter Atherton from Michael davis and Nicholas Baglin.

In division two it also needed a cpo on 34 points to see Ceri James home from Graeme Pallant.

Prestbury ladies played their Winners Final and Cheshire Senior star Gill Mellor showed her class to take top spot after winning a cpo on 74 from Myra Penkethman, four clear of Jillian Morris and Josephine Harrison.

Ian Menzies is on a hot streak at Wilmslow as he won the Asford Cup with a 137 total for 36 holes.

Then in the Waterhouse and Hughes Scratch medal he won the best nett with 68 and was level with young Cheshire star Jacob Oakley on 70 in the gross section.

Alderley Edge’s men played the second round of the Club Championsh­ip and Michael Davies was out on his own with 65, seven shots clear of Harrison Peck.

The Colin Richards memorial medal at Styal was won in style by Matthew Sutcliffe with his neat 65 seeing him well clear of Nick Gillings 68 and Anton Bardsley 69.

Styal’s Sunday Stableford was won by Daniel Lynch with 41 points from Christian Guy and Duncan Mayall, both 38.

The Thursday Stableford play off at Shrigley Hall had Gill Kershaw winning with 36 points from Ray Haddock 33 and Peter Trussell 31.

Davenport’s men played their medals final and in division one Edward Bailey was top of the shop with 67 from Lewis Darlington 68 and Bradley Cooke, Nick Parker and Jonathan Aitken all 69.

Leading in the other divisions were Mick Murphy 69 and Andrew Bryce also 69.
