Jess clinches gold in Ireland

-

JESS “Iron Lady” Zolaski was part of the Northwest Warriors female boxing team to make the trip to Ireland recently.

She was matched against a very good Irish girl, Ellie Preston from Boldoyle who had done well in the Irish championships.

Round one saw Jess perform really well drawing Ellie in and throwing the counters and scoring well. Round two and the Irish girl wasn’t drawn in any more – instead she drew Jess in and managed to catch with some nice shots. So, with a round apiece, it was all to play for in third.

Jess didn’t disappoint and turned her style on, totally out-thinking, out-working and outscoring her opponent.

Victory was hers and the finals beckoned the following day.

Day two and bout 29 was the 57kg final. Jess’ opponent in the final was Kate Toomey from Arklowe Ireland.

Round one saw Kate dominate proceedings.

This made Jess very determined and as the bell rang for round two she went to war, pressuring from the off, landing strong shots to the body and head and putting Kate on the back foot. It was too much for the Irish girl and as the bell rang for the start of round three it was all over as Kate retired on the stool having sustained a barrage of shots through out round two.

Jess took gold in what was a massive success for the northwest warrior team, picking up six gold medals, three silver and one bronze.
