Hun­dreds ex­pected for the big lights switch on

THE town’s Christ­mas lights will burst into life on Satur­day with a fes­tive cel­e­bra­tion in the Mar­ket Place.

Mac­cles­field Town Coun­cil has plans for a grand fire­work dis­play, a Christ­mas mar­ket, craft fair, street per­form­ers, choirs and a brass band.

The event starts at 12pm when Mac­cles­field Youth Brass will be per­form around the Christ­mas Tree.

Then through­out the day there will be per­for­mances from MADS, The My­del Choir, Cal­lum Jack­son and the New Hope Club, as well as many oth­ers.

There will be some small fair rides and street en­ter­tain­ers as well as face­paint­ing and bal­loon mod­el­ling.

Fa­ther Christ­mas has been given the hon­our of turn­ing on the lights at 5pm.

Coun­cil­lor Bev­er­ley Doo­ley urged all res­i­dents to make the even a suc­cess.

She said: “It should be a great at­mo­sphere and a great way to start the Christ­mas sea­son. It will be fun for all the fam­ily.”

A mas­sive Christ­mas tree was in­stalled in the cen­tre of Mar­ket Place on Tues­day.

Driv­ers should be aware that Mar­ket Place, Cas­tle Street, Church­side and Church Street will be closed to ve­hi­cles from 8am on the day of the event.

There will be free park­ing from 10am on car park on Duke Street, the Town Hall, Ex­change Street, Churchill Way, Park Green, Sun­der­land Street and Wa­ters Green.
