Late strike sends Macc top of table

LADIES FOOTBALL ANDREW DELANY

SATURDAY saw the resumption of football down at Moss Farm, and this week Macclesfield Town Ladies FC were represented by the U13s & U9s.

The U13s were pitted against Crossfield JFC, who turned out to be well organised, attacking team.

Crossfields dominated the first half with accurate passing and movement. Macc were all over the place with passing woeful, tackling woeful and general play lacking. As a result it wasn’t long before Crossfields found the back of the net with MTLFC gifting them a goal.

Crossfields continued to dominate with wave after wave of attack, but Dids Parish and Elly Pollard in defence kept the score to 1-0 half time.

Whatever was said at half time certainly did the trick in terms of sparking a positive response from the Macclesfield girls, who came out with renewed vigour, finding the style of play which has brought them success in the past.

Commitment was better, passing better and with purposeful play they were a force to reckon with.

Sara Dale made a run down the right hand side before putting a great cross in for Olivia Delany to run on to and bury the ball in the back of the net, 1-1.

Crossfields tried hard to to get back on top but once again the MTLFC defence held firm, and with Annabell O’Neill’s great saves the scores remained level.

A great move ten minutes from time down the right hand side by Lily Fallon ended with a cross into the penalty area for Leah Hanagan to pounce to score the winning goal for MTLFC, a result which put them joint top of the Champions League.

MTLFC U9s played two fixtures and won one easily with a draw in the first game, which was, by all accounts, a great match to watch with this developing team.

Sunday saw MTLFC U18s play Crewe Alex Youth and they came away with 1-1 draw. They still remain in fourth spot with a game in hand.
