Oxford were let off hook says Mitch

-

MACCLESFIELD Town defender Mitch Hancox felt his team should have got the victory during Friday’s 0-0 draw with Oxford United.

The Silkmen couldn’t find the breakthrough during their FA Cup second round clash with the League One side, meaning they will have a replay next week.

While Hancox was pleased with his team’s performance at the Moss Rose, he believes they were unfortunate not to come out on top.

“To be fair, the lads put a great shift in. I feel a bit disheartened that we didn’t take our chances but it’s the FA Cup”, he told the club’s official website.

“We didn’t have that bit of luck. Jack Mackreth hit the post which was unlucky and their goalkeeper pulled off a great save from Paul Lewis.

“To be fair to Oxford they had some chances in the second half but in the first half we could have killed off the game, but it was just one of them days.

“We will just go down to Oxford now and try to get a result. Hopefully we can get through.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield added to their squad last week after signing midfielder Richie Wellens.

The 36-year-old has previously played for the likes of Manchester United, Leicester City, Oldham Athletic, Doncaster and Shrewsbury during a long career that has spanned nearly 20 years.

He recently spent time at National League North side Salford City, but left the club in October.
