Drop-in centre and Scouts promote youth mental health
AYOUTH drop in centre joined forces with volunteers from the Macclesfield Parish Scout and Guide Group to highlight the importance of children’s rights.
The event was part of wider celebrations across Cheshire East, with a range of agencies coming together to celebrate and promote children’s rights, especially access to mental health services.
Under the banner ‘scaling heights for children’s rights’ the group from Just Drop In (JDI) enjoyed a refreshing circular walk to White Nancy in Bollington, and despite a bit of drizzle the conversation flowed freely and new friendships were made. Mike Brown, Scout and Guide group leader, said: “It’s important for all young people to enjoy good mental health.
“Mental wellbeing in young adolescents and teenagers is a growing concern across the country, and it’s important that we all do our bit to help with this issue at a time when NHS services are under increased pressure.
“We hope that by partnering with JDI we can raise the profile of good mental health with our own young people as well awareness in our local community”.
Faye Ronan, from Just Drop-In, said: “It was great to spend a morning out in the fresh air and take a step back from life and routine to really think about children’s rights and how important it is to raise awareness in our community through events such as the ones that took place all over Cheshire East throughout November.
“Thank you to the Scout and Guide group for the opportunity to work in partnership and deliver an enjoyable walk”.
Just Drop-In, based on Duke Street, provides a friendly atmosphere six days a week where young people aged 12 to 25 can drop in to access support with mental health difficulties, financial problems, job hunting and life skills.
