Lights shine again after online appeal
MOSS Lane is aglow with Christmas spirit once again thanks to a huge social media appeal.
Joe Henshaw, owner of Henshaws Waste Management, is known across the town for his fantastic Christmas lights spectacle at his Moss Lane business but had decided against putting lights up this year.
But he has changed his mind and the lights are now back and bigger than ever after more than 2,800 people joined a Facebook appeal.
Sam Hall, 29, who lives in Macclesfield and has always enjoyed seeing the display, launched the campaign. She said: “I was really disappointed when I heard they weren’t doing the lights on Moss Lane. It lights up Moss Lane, it’s so Christmassy and lovely, and I know loads of people who have made it a family tradition to go and see them.
“I’m a friend of Joe’s daughter so I spoke to her, she spoke to her dad and he came back and said if I can get more than 2,000 likes on Facebook he would do them. I put a post up at 9pm last night and now I’ve got 2,800. It’s a fantastic response.”
Sam’s Facebook post has been shared more than 800 times, with more than a hundred people commenting on the lights.
She said: “It’s so good to see them back up again. It’s a magical display and so many people love them. I’m glad Joe could be convinced to get them back up.”
Joe Henshaw said: “Although I have been putting on the lights for years I have had a few neighbours complain and didn’t want to cause any bother. The number of people who wanted them up was amazing, so it felt right to do it.”
Holly Goodhind, from Henshaw’s added: “We never expected there would be such a response. It just goes to show how much community spirit there is in Macclesfield and that they do appreciate it.
“Henshaws would like to thank Mark Green, Chris Mollart and Louis Leigh for working so hard over the past four days in order to get the lights ready in time for the switch-on.”
Commenting on our Facebook site, Lorraine Madeline Steels said: “Well done to Sam for setting up the petition and a big huge thanks to Joe for putting that sparkle back into Christmas.”
Wendy Jones said: “NOW it’s Christmas! Thank you Henshaws! And the lovely person who started the campaign.”
The lights at Henshaws will remain in place until Friday, January 6.
