Halt Moss losses

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town manager John Askey believes his side’s poor home form is costing his side this season.

The Silkmen are eighth in the National League table, eight points behind the play-off places with games in hand on some of the teams above them.

They suffered defeat in their last league match, losing 2-1 against Bromley at the Moss Rose on Saturday.

Askey insists the home form has not been good enough, and has warned his side that they need to do something about it.

“We’re struggling to get the win at the Moss Rose whereas in previous years it’s been a place where our home form has been really good,” he said.

“Other teams are working hard to beat us at home so we’ve got to work that out and hopefully improve.”

Macc came up short against Bromley on Saturday after Blair Turgott’s late goal, cancelling out Paul Lewis’ equaliser that came just one minute earlier.

Tobi Sho-Silva got the other goal for Bromley, and Askey was unhappy with what he saw from his team.

“It was really disappointing. I think we were controlling the game and then with their first effort of the game they scored,” he said.

“It was a poor goal to give away, and then we huffed and puffed, created a couple of chances, got back into the game and then got done with the sucker-punch.

“It’s disappointing, and the lads are disappointed too, but the only thing we can do is move on to the next one now.

“To be fair to the players, playing last Tuesday with 10 men probably took its toll on one or two and we lacked that little bit of zip that we showed sometimes with our pass- ing and movement.”

While Askey was frustrated with what he saw, he thought the performance of Danny Rowe was one positive to come from it.

“He’s been playing really well and looked the main threat; it was one of them days where it wasn’t meant to be and we’ve just

got to go again,” he said.

“I still think we suffered from Tuesday and things don’t really seem to be going for us at the moment, but hopefully that’ll change in the New Year.”

Macclesfield will now hope to return to winning ways in the National League when they make the trip to Prenton Park to take on Tranmere Rovers on Boxing Day.
