New recruits boost college engineering

-

MACCLESFIELD College has made two senior appointments to boost its engineering teaching.

Ella Tsui-Lau and Ian Carten join the college to head up its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Creative and Commercial departments respectively.

The appointments aim to help the college focus on its engineering curriculum and tackle a shortage of skilled engineers.

Ella joins the college from her role as a Quality Assurance educational consultant. She will oversee the delivery of science, IT, engineering, aeronautical, automotive and construction courses.

Ian Carten boasts 20 years of teaching and training experience. He has managed a range of curriculum areas in FE and sixth form colleges and worked in industry as a music school and product specialist.

Rachel Kay, chief executive and principal, said: “While the engineering sector has a shortage gap, the UK’s creative industry offers 1.9m jobs across the country and is growing faster than any other sector. We want to ensure our curriculum reflects economic trends and makes our students stand out from the crowd.

“With 36 years of experience from a spectrum of educational roles under their collective belt, the new senior appointments will add great value to the departments.”
