King’s bursary launched for sixth formers
THE King’s School is offering a new bursary for Sixth Form students who live in Macclesfield.
The means tested bursary – funded by The Merchant Taylors’ Company – will cover up to 100 per cent of fees and will be offered for both years of sixth form study.
Applicants must live in Macclesfield SK10 or SK11 postcodes and be able to demonstrate good academic potential as well as the ability to make a contribution to King’s wider cultural, sporting or musical activities.
The school’s connection to the Merchant Taylors dates back to its founder, Sir John Percyvale, who was born in Macclesfield before moving to London and becoming Master Merchant Taylor and later Lord Mayor of London.
Dr Simon Hyde, head at King’s, said: “We are very grateful to the Merchant Taylors’ Company for their support of the school and for this new opportunity to attend King’s.
“The Merchant Taylors are one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies based in the City of London. They are very active supporters of educational and charity work.”
Master of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, Christopher Keville, said: “The Company is very proud of its long and historic connection to the King’s School in Macclesfield.
“It is delighted that this bursary will enable young people who might otherwise not have the chance to access this opportunity of excellent teaching and facilities at King’s, especially at this important point in their academic life.”
A number of other bursaries are available for study at King’s, including the Alex Anderson Bursary and those funded through the school’s Quincentenary Bursary Scheme.
