Pro Alistair’s juggling act at Styal

- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

ALISTAIR Waddell, who began his golf as a junior at Chorlton Golf Club at the age of 14 where he went on to become their junior captain, is now looking to complete a PGA course based at Styal GC and combine getting the qualification and playing tournament golf and coaching.

Alistair said: “After being junior captain at Chorlton I later moved to Styal and spent the last season of my amateur career at both Styal and Mere.

“I then went to Manchester Metropolitan University studying Sport and Business Management. I played an odd bit of county golf but concentrated mainly on getting my degree but got my handicap to +2 and won the club championships at both Styal and Mere and I also won the club singles knock out at Styal playing off +1.

“I also won the Manchester Alliance strokeplay amateur championship at Manchester GC in 2011 and then turned pro at the age of 21.

“I won numerous times as a professional on the 1836 Tour and the Liverpool Alliance and won a full card on the Europro Tour and also the Big Easy Tour in South Africa which is a step below the main Sunshine Tour.

“I would like to thank my parents for their supportive role in my golf as well as all of the professionals and members of Styal Golf Club for their continued support, help and encouragement over my developing years.”

Styal Seniors were in singles Stableford action and it needed a cpo on 41 points to see David Riley home from Mike Burchell with Roger McCabe a point off their hot pace.

With their Winter season at the midpoint the current leaders in the Styal Seniors Winter League are Mr Consistency Harry Reid 200 points, Nick Gillings 197, Phil Moore 196 and David Hollick and Alan Beckett, both 194.

A Saturday Stableford for Styal’s men had a clear winner in Simon Geddis in division one as he posted 41 points to finish ahead of Steve James 39 and Richard Armstead and Sam Hall, both 38.

In division two Andy Sharrocks was unstoppable with a huge haul of 47 points seeing him well clear of Patrick Sharrocks 42 and Gio Porro and Richard Baldwin, both 41.

A Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall saw in-form Graeme Nimmo on top after winning a cpo on 38 points from Janet Gates with Sally Trussell 37 and Nick Rainford 36 also in the frame.
